Just today, a brand-spankin'-new full time post was announced at a UK university in my specific field! Talk about the universe opening a door when closing another!
So I'm taking my own advice, asking "what's next?" and channeling my energy onto the page - the application page, that is. No use wasting all that good creative power on wallowing! There is ENERGY to spent here!
I am fully convinced that the universe has got my back. And that ROCKS!

oh yes my dear, the universe has our backs. it has the most perfect job/career/paths in mind. it will not let us down. good luck my dear!
I am sorry about the job not working out, but I am so glad there is already another opportunity on the horizon.
Also, FWIW, there were a couple of jobs that seemed so perfect that I did not get and I found out afterwards would have not been quite so perfect. I did not find this out until a while later (like a couple of years) either.

Bummer about the job, but I LOVE your optimism. I'm currently job hunting, and it can seriously mess with you. It's good to hear the hope in your post...
